Covington -- Virgil E. Hickman, 87, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at The Waters of Covington, where he had been a patient one week. Born Nov. 30, 1916, northwest of Covington in Warren County, he was a life resident of Covington, and a 1934 graduate of Covington High School. Mr. Hickman was manager of the former Covington Lumber Co. and Veedersburg Lumber Co., then was employed at Harrison Steel Castings Co. He retired Dec. 31, 1978. He married Wilma Lucas on Oct. 31, 1936, in Danville, Ind. They spent their winters in Florida from 1979 to 1994. She survives. Mr. Hickman was a member of First Baptist Church and was a past master of the Fountain Masonic Lodge 60. Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Joyce Reed of West Liberty, Iowa; and a son, Rear Admiral Donald E. Hickman (wife: Libby) of Jacksonville, Fla. Services are Friday in Covington. Burial was at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington.
